Veteran Tekken Developer Hits Back at Fans

Fighting game fans can be some of the most vocal and passionate in the world of video games, but it seems that their demands have become too much for at least one veteran developer who is working for Namco Bandai.

Katsuhiro Harada, who has long been the producer in charge of the Tekken series, has posted on Twitter that, “I believe that, before whining and complaining about everything, you need practice at taking a step back and analyzing things objectively. And also at being an adult.”

Fans have been lately complaining about the voice actors that the company has used for the various characters and Harada has offered an explanation of why the actors change over time.

He has also emphasized that, even when the actors reprise their roles, some fans complain about changed voices, which shows their bias.

The developer has also added, “I have even complied to the requests of you all spamming me to ‘bring back characters’ from previous installments. You often say, ‘Let’s show the dev team how sincere we are by buying two copies if they bring back character X’, but did you really go through with it?”

Harada says that he will continue to read requests and commentary from the fan base as long as they are constructive and can lead to a better experience for Tekken players.

The series has managed to sell more than 40 million games since it was launched and it has created an entire media universe that includes spin-off series, movies and animation series.

A number of Tekken characters have appeared in other video games and two full blown crossover games with the Street Fighter universe have been recently unveiled, with the Namco Bandai one set to launch during 2013.

Until then fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which will be delivered in September 2012 on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, with Namco also working on a Nintendo Wii U version.
