Ongoing 24-Hour Twitter Campaign Against Fossil Fuels

Since 8 a.m. GMT, the social media network Twitter has been playing host to thousands of environmental messages whose sole purpose is that of convincing world leaders at the Rio+20 Earth Summit to put an end to fossil fuels subsidies.

Using the hashtag #EndFossilFuelSubsidies, these green-heads managed to create what is now a true “Twitterstorm”.

This can only be a good thing, as hopefully those participating at the global summit in Brazil will turn their attention towards this on-line campaign and take appropriate measures.

Apparently, the main drive behind this event was the news that fossil fuel industries receive annual financial support from governments, and that the said funds can reach $1 trillion (€0.8 trillion).
