Not Everyone Loves the iPad, Study Shows

A study by IDG Connect shows that “developing regions” are less fond of Apple’s iPad, and more into Android tablets. At least 71 percent of the people who don’t own a post-PC device reportedly plan to buy a Droid in the next 12 months.

IDG Connect’s survey was carried out on 3124 worldwide IT and business professionals who reportedly demonstrated “a startling move away from iPads, especially in developing regions.”

According to the technology media company, 71% of respondents own a tablet and half of them have an Apple iPad. So far so good, right? Not really.

Their survey also found that “more first time buyers will opt for Android over the next 12 months.”

The research (which we’re supposed to take on faith) showed that 44% will buy an Android tablet, and just 27% will buy an iPad.

Editor’s note
Of course, having not owned a tablet, let alone an Apple iPad, they hardly know what they’re missing on. So when pricing comes into play, you can do the math (i.e. deduct that cheaper sounds better to every reasonably intelligent human being) and you can call yourself an analyst.

Back to the study, IDG added that 3% will opt for Windows 8 (no surprise there) and 21% aren’t sure.

Android is the likely choice for the highest proportion of future buyers in Africa. At the other end of the spectrum, Android sounds almost equally unattractive to North American buyers, and Australia/New Zealand residents.

“The exception to this developed and developing world split occurs in Europe, where only 23% of non-owners plan to buy an iPad, compared with 49% who will buy an Android tablet,” said IDG.

The report also breaks down the work consumption patterns amongst tablet owners revealing that 64% of iPad owners use the tablet daily for work. Android scored 58%, and Blackberry hit 71%.
