After showing off the Wii U last week at E3 2012, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has discussed the possible next-generation consoles from its competitors, the PlayStation 4 or Xbox 720, saying that the devices will cause problems for both consumers and developers.
Nintendo is getting ready to debut its Wii U home console later this year and took the opportunity to show off the device last week at E3 2012, alongside some of the games that will appear for it.
According to the executive, the two devices will cause problems for both gamers and developers due to a variety of reasons.
"If they decide to increase the spec numbers, will the consumers be able to realize the difference enough so that they can understand it's much superior to today's machine?” Iwata pondered during an interview with The Telegraph.
“And also, if they beef up the processing power, that simply means much more work for software developers to take advantage of those spec numbers. So I have to ask the question if that type of differentiation really makes sense,” he added.
The Nintendo president isn’t that worried about rivals, however, as he highlighted his desire to satisfy consumers first and then compete against rivals.
"I never think in terms of how we can compete against the other companies, rather our primary focus is to make consumers feel the uniqueness and attractiveness of our products," he added. "So any improvements in graphics are just a portion of what we want people to enjoy from Nintendo. More importantly, I want people to say Nintendo are offering unique experiences."
The Nintendo Wii U is set to appear this holiday season.
