Nginx Lands Initial Support for SPDY

SPDY has been picking up steam, but its impact is still minor at best. Only a handful of websites support it, most of Google's servers, Twitter and several others. It's also only supported by Chrome and Firefox.

But things are moving and nginx, the second most popular web server on the planet, has made the first big step towards supporting SPDY.

Google recently released a stable Apache module that added SPDY support to Apache servers. People probably aren't flocking to do this, but it's at least possible and it should be fairly risk free.

Nginx has been working on adding this for a while and is now providing the first beta patches that add support. It may still be a while before the feature can be considered final.

What's more, the SPDY specs are in constant flux as well, browsers have just started supporting the third draft version of the specifications.
