Mrs. Eastwood on Reality Show: I Expected Criticism but Not Death Threats

When word first got out that Clint Eastwood’s family would become the stars of a new E! reality series, many assumed either he’d been forced to do it or had simply sold out. Even so, Dina, his wife, never imagined they would also get death threats because of it.

The reality show, “Mrs. Eastwood & Company,” doesn’t focus on the iconic actor and director, as fans must know.

In fact, he hardly makes a few cameos at family events, because, the rest of the time, the screen is occupied by Dina, her two daughters and the band Dina’s managing and hoping to launch into showbiz with this new show.

Not once in a million years would Dina have imagined fans would react so violently to the show, she says in a new interview with the Daily Mail.

She knew to expect criticism because of her husband’s name being involved in the project, but she didn’t think this could go farther than that.

“I was prepared for a lot of criticism, but we’ve received death threats. I’ve experienced virulent hatred from some people saying that I’ve dragged Clint into the reality arena. I’m married to the guy, so of course we discussed this a million times,” Dina says.

The reality show has been three years in the making, she goes on to say, so, yes, they had plenty of time to think of this from all possible angles.

The idea of the show, Mrs. Eastwood is adamant, was to launch Overtone, the band she discovered in South Africa, where she accompanied Clint while he worked on “Invictus.”

At the same time, she thought it would help her daughters get a head start in showbiz without having to use Clint’s name.

“I warned the girls, ‘You’re going to be called fat, moronic, spoilt – everything under the sun.’ But they love being part of the culture of social media. But me? If I’m honest, it’s far more challenging than I thought it would be,” Dina says.

“We’ve had lots of compliments saying what a normal family we are, but the death threats...” she adds with a sigh.

It almost sounds as if she’s sorry to have plunged head first into the reality show arena, the Mail notes.

“I only did this to get Overtone launched – it’s all about the band. I have everything I need – my parents, my kids and my husband – and I don’t need anything else. I’m not materialistic and neither is my husband and I think that’s partly why we’re together – because we share the same values,” she adds, as if to disperse that first impression.

“Mrs. Eastwood & Company” premiered to poor reviews in the US. It starts airing on July 1 in the UK.
