HTC Plans Three Windows Phone 8 Devices: Zenith, Accord and Rio

Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC Corporation is one of the hardware partners that would be by Microsoft’s side when it launches the new Windows Phone 8 platform.

While no official info on the upcoming smartphones has been provided, rumors on what the leading handset vendor could bring to shelves did make it online.

Apparently, there will be at least three new smartphones coming from the company with Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform on board this year, each aimed at a different market segment.

According to a recent article on The Verge, these smartphones feature the codenames of Zenith, Accord and Rio, and will sport screen ranging from 4.7-inch to 4-inch.

Of the three, Zenith will aim at the high-end of the market, with its 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 touchscreen display on the front, capable of delivering a 720p resolution.

Rumor has it that it would be powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon application processor, and that it would pack an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with full HD video recording capabilities. It will also sport 42Mbps HSPA+ connectivity options.

Designed for the mid- to high-level of the smartphone market, Accord will arrive on shelves with a 4.3-inch 720p Super LCD 2 screen, a dual-core CPU from Qualcomm, and an 8-megapixel camera on the back.

The smartphone is also said to feature 42Mbps HSPA+ and NFC support, along with 1GB of RAM to complement the aforementioned dual-core CPU.

At the entry-level of the market, there is the HTC Rio, with a 4-inch screen capable of delivering a WVGA resolution, with a Qualcomm MSM8227 application processor inside, and with only 512MB.

On the back, this smartphone will feature a 5-megapixel photo snapper, with support for 720p video recording. It will also arrive on shelves with 14.4Mbps HSPA connectivity.

Apparently, all three smartphones are expected to hit the market before the end of this year. While Accord are almost certain to arrive in October, when Windows Phone 8 becomes available, while Zenith is said to be slated for a Q4 launch.
