The Google Nexus Q Wants to Be Your Entertainment Center

Along with its first ever Nexus photo, Google also made a surprise announcement, its first ever consumer electronics device, the Nexus Q. There have been plenty of rumors about the device, but no one expected it to be launched at Google I/O.

The device runs Android, though it's a rather different version from the phone or tablet one. It's powered by the same CPU as the Galaxy Nexus and is always connected to the cloud, that's its main selling point.

It's an interesting device, you interact with it via your Android phone or tablet and you can use it to listen to music, in whichever room you want, or watch a movie on your HDTV.

It's got a built-in amplifier with a decent 45W of power, WiFi, ethernet, bluetooth and NFC for connectivity, as well as microUSB which Google says was added specifically to make it easy to hack on the device. It will sell for $299 and it's shipping next month.
