A Gamers Week: June 10


Welcome to A Gamer’s Week, Softpedia’s very special gaming news roundup that highlights the most important things we heard about on interactive entertainment during the last 7 days.

It’s been a very busy week here at Softpedia Games, as the E3 2012 expo was in full swing in Los Angeles. Our own Andrei Dumitrescu was on the show floor and posted an array of hands-on experience reports with many impressive games.

In terms of other original content, we reviewed Codemasters’ Dirt Showdown racing game at the beginning of the week and posted a Weekend Reading piece on E3 2012.

On Monday, we heard a few details about Nintendo’s Wii U, including the fact that it has a special Miiverse social network built right into it. Two special Halo 4 videos also appeared right from Microsoft’s E3 2012 press conference.

On Tuesday, we heard plenty of great things about plenty of great games, but by far the most important were Assassin’s Creed III and Need for Speed: Most Wanted, both having received plenty of details, trailers, and gameplay demonstrations.

More news came from E3 2012 on Wednesday, including a full list of specs and features for the Nintendo Wii U. Blizzard also took the chance to highlight the wide array of changes to be included in Diablo 3’s patch 1.0.3.

On Thursday, Blizzard actually released a new update for Diablo 3, in the form of patch 1.0.2b, while EA revealed a set of stunning screenshots with the future Need for Speed: Most Wanted, depicting many great supercars.

On Friday, Epic Games showed off the first video with its Unreal Engine 4 tech demo, giving regular gamers a glimpse at how next-generation games may actually look like. Bethesda also released update 1.6 for Skyrim on the Xbox 360 platform, bringing the much-requested mounted combat feature to the complex RPG.

On Saturday, we saw a video of the new OverRun multiplayer mode that's part of Gears of War: Judgment. Microsoft also took the chance to emphasize its confidence in the current Xbox 360, saying that a successor is still far away.
