FCC Running Out of ID Codes

The Federal Communications Commission is preparing to expand the allotment of identifier codes for companies requesting equipment authorization.

They are also trying to find ways of clarifying the administrative requirements and otherwise improving the authorization process.

The reason behind this activity is the incredibly high number of applications received for wireless device authorization, like Bose's SoundLink Air, cell phones, tablets, remote control devices and even security tags and inventory trackers.

As odd as it sounds, the FCC is running out of identification codes fast. The situation isn't too strained yet, but it does demand action, so the FCC is taking it.

All we can say is that we're glad for their proactiveness. If the FCC suddenly paused or stopped accepting submissions, however unlikely, we wouldn't have so many pre-release leaks to report on.
