Fable Creator Shocked by Microsofts Indifference to the PC Platform

Peter Molyneux, the famous games designer responsible for the Fable franchise, has talked about PC gaming and expressed his shock in regard to Microsoft’s indifference towards the platform and its Windows operating system.

While consoles like the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 or the upcoming Wii U fight for supremacy, the PC platform is actually the most popular, with hundreds of millions of owners running some sort of Windows operating system from Microsoft, which is more than capable of running different games.

However, Microsoft’s attempts to promote PC gaming on Windows have been lackluster, to say the least, as the Games for Windows Live service has recently been hidden away into the Xbox.com website.

After the company’s E3 2012 press conference, former Microsoft Game Studios Europe Director Peter Molyneux expressed his admiration for the PC platform and his surprise that Microsoft was doing so little to promote it.

"I would hope the next generation would bring about a new wave of innovation. If we don't do that in consoles, then you will find that those people that want innovation will start retreating to other formats. Look at the PC. It's incredible to me how there's been a resurgence in PC gaming. There's a lot more innovation now," he told GamesIndustry.

"I think that's the other thing about the Microsoft press conference. It's always shocked me about how little Microsoft cared about the Windows platform," he added.

"There was hardly a single talk about Windows 8 at all [at E3 last week]. You would've thought, with a billion installed machines, there would be at least some play. And the whole metro interface is much more gamified, but there was no talk about it at all."

While Microsoft bragged about the inclusion of Xbox Live in the upcoming Windows 8 operating system, its E3 2012 press conference mentioned it for just a few seconds, before focusing on core Xbox 360 titles, Kinect games, or new features for its home console.
