EndWeekGame: June 22

Andrei Dumitrescu: One of the games that took up most of my gaming time during 2008 was Sins of a Solar Empire, the real-time strategy game created by developer Ironclad Games and publisher Stardock Entertainment.

Now the two companies have partnered up again to launch the standalone expansion called Rebellion and I can see much of 2012 being similarly occupied by space warfare and planet development.

Rebellion takes the core of the Sins of a Solar Empire experience and upgrades them all, giving players more options when it comes to factions, more units to play around with and many more paths to victory.

I like playing the various Rebel factions, who tend to mostly go against the type of their own race, and I especially appreciate that Ironclad has made it easier for turtle focused gamers to win via technology or influence.

And if and when I get tired of SoaSE – Rebellion, then I might spend some time with another space-based game, older and the turn-powered Birth of the Federation.

Andrei Dobra: This weekend will see me spend some time with the PC version of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier as well as with Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer.

I’ve always had a thing for tactical shooters largely because one of my favorite past experiences was with Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six: Vegas. Now, with Future Soldier, the company is trying to recreate the squad-based mechanics and show off all sorts of clever gadgets, so I’m more than interested in the experience.

When I won’t be using high tech gadgets, I’m going far into the realm of sci-fi in Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer mode, as I want to do my part in this weekend’s special challenge – Operation Savage.

While the goal of killing 7 million enemies may seem daunting, I’m more than eager to team up with friends and strive to make the galaxy a safer place.
