E3 2012 Day Two Impressions

The most impressive sight of this second day of E3 2012 was that of two booth babes at the SEGA stand were both amazed and horrified by two images: the Spec Ops: The Line teaser on a big screen, which featured burnt bodies and some impressive shots of Dubai and the image of Marines being repeatedly decapitated by aliens in a multiplayer match.

The best game I played during my second full day of E3 2012 was, without a doubt, Aliens: Colonial Marines, the first person shooter from Gearbox, with a multiplayer experience that left me thrilled, a little scared and very impressed.

A lot depends on the single player that the Aliens game will deliver on launch but the versus game modes might be enough for some player to get it.

I also got a quick look at a very different multiplayer oriented experience, End of Nations, from Petroglyph and Trion, which seems like it deliver a good mix of MMO and real time strategy for free without sacrificing complexity or depth.

Role playing fans will be certainly be interested in what the Larian Studios team is doing with their Divinity: Original Sin, especially with the deep turn based combat and the way the characters can interact with the game world.

Cooperation is at the core of Star Trek, the game that Namco Bandai and Digital Extremes are linked to the rebooted movie series, and the interplay between Kirk and Spock was appealing although the E3 demo disappointed a little with the reveal that the Gorn will be the main antagonists.

To wrap this day up you can also read a report on how the new Nintendo Wii U will handle such AAA titles like Batman: Arkham City and Assassin’s Creed III and how the new tablet controller can enhance the experience.
