Dragons Dogma Ships 1 Million Units, DLC and Sequel Planned

Capcom has confirmed that it has shipped over 1 million units of its latest Dragon’s Dogma title, announcing that both DLC for the current game and a sequel are in development.

Medieval RPGs have witnessed a resurrection in popularity in recent years, with the chief example being The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim from Bethesda.

Capcom has tried its own hand at the genre and delivered earlier this year Dragon’s Dogma, a medieval fantasy RPG where players were able to go through an impressive story and engage in all sorts of battles against massive monsters.

While many believed the gamble wouldn’t pay off, given Capcom’s lack of experience with such RPGs, the company has proven them wrong and confirmed that over 1 million units of Dragon’s Dogma were shipped worldwide.

What’s more, the game even set a record in its native Japan, becoming the fastest selling all-new title in the last decade.

"Dragon's Dogma set a new record in Japan for sales volume of an entirely new brand in its first week for releases during the past decade. Worldwide shipments have surpassed one million. As a result, Dragon's Dogma has become Capcom's 55th title to top the one million level, demonstrating once again that Capcom ranks among the world's leading game producers in terms of technical and development skills," the company said.

Capcom has confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma thereby joins its most successful brands, like Monster Hunter or Sengoku Basara, and this means that more downloadable content will be released for the RPG in the near future.

What’s more, a sequel is in development, so fans can look forward to once again fight mythical monsters in the Dragon’s Dogma universe.

Until then, you can enjoy the current game on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.
