Despite Wii U Focus Pikmin 3 Has No Full Online Mode

Probably one of the biggest titles for the new Nintendo Wii U on launch, Pikmin 3 will not have true online connectivity despite the fact that it will be one of the new consoleĆ¢€™s core elements that the company is highlighting.

Shigeru Miyamoto, who is the best known video game developer working at Nintendo, told IGN that, “You have to be very careful that you don’t drop frames as you’re trying to sync up with other players over what could be a very great physical distance, over the internet.”

He added, “But in the situation of Pikmin, for example, since you would have lots of individual, small creatures, the Pikmin, whose every movement and location is going to be really important in the game, it would be very difficult to sync up over an internet connection.”

“So I think what we’ve decided to do is focus on the single-player and local multiplayer aspects, which are really fun. But unfortunately, no online multiplayer for Pikmin 3. But the co-op local multiplayer is really fun,” concluded the legendary developer.

Pikmin 3 was one of the titles that Nintendo gave special attention to during its E3 2012 press conference and the game was then available to gamers to try out on the show floor.

Players will be able to use four leaders in the new title instead of the previous two, and a number of new creatures will be introduced to alter gameplay.

Pikmin 3 uses a real-time strategy template and the new Wii U controller will enable new mechanics via the use of the touch screen.

Miyamoto has also suggested that old-term fans of the franchise will have some surprises in the third installment.

Nintendo has not announced a clear launch date for the Wii U home console, although it will arrive on core markets before the high point of the Christmas shopping season, and Pikmin 3 will be an exclusive launch title.
