Club 3D Intros Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition

Long time AMD and ATI video card partner, Club 3D is now announcing the availability of Club 3D Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition video card on its official website. This card is the exact embodiment of AMD’s Tahiti 2 reference design and is gunning for the reference GTX 680 cards out there.

Nvidia’s Kepler is quite a well-designed GPU with high performance and good efficiency. AMD’s Tahiti was struggling to keep up in performance while the thermals weren’t just as good.

Seeing how frequency-scalable their architecture is, AMD decided to up the ante and introduce a higher-clocked GPU based on the same architecture, PCB and even the same cooling system.

This is an important achievement for AMD, as it clearly shows that the Radeon HD 7900 series were well engineered and reliable.

Despite being hotter and noisier, AMD’s new cards are often faster than Nvidia’s GTX 680 Kepler, while being actually available in the shops.

AMD is likely trying to profit from the fact that Nvidia’s Kepler availability is still low and from the fact that the Californian GPU designer decided to launch their mid GPU solution ahead of their top GPU solution for 2012.

This practically allowed AMD to regain the 3D performance crown by not only using the same GPU generation, but by also using the same card design, same PCB and the same cooling system.

The Texas-based GPU/CPU designer is practically offering its partners better GPUs at lower prices to better compete with Nvidia’s GTX 680 cards.

Club 3D’s press release correctly calls its product “This Club 3D Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition is the World's First 1 TFLOP DPFP GPU.”

There is no word on availability and price, but we already know these details from our Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition launch article here.
