HITB2012KUL: Hack in the Box Celebrates Its 10-Year Anniversary

In less than a week, the world-renowned Hack in the Box (HITB) security conference will open its gates for researchers and information security enthusiasts from all over the world. This edition, programmed to take part in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, between October 8 and October 11, marks the event’s 10-year anniversary.

All HITB conferences are special, but this one will be even more so, since 42 of the most popular speakers will take the stage once again.

Those who will be fortunate enough to attend will have the opportunity to see some of the best the security industry has got, including Mikko Hypponen of F-Secure, the founders of The Pirate Bay, John Draper - aka Captain Crunch -, Chris Evans of Google’s Chrome Security Team, researcher Charlie Miller, and Lucas Adamski from Mozilla Corporation.

As usual, security enthusiasts can test out or improve their skills at various competitions and workshops.

The noteworthy activities include CommSec Village, HackWEEKDAY, Capture the Flag, Lockpicking Village, Google’s Pwnium 2 challenge, MDeC exhibition, Amazon’s recruitment drive, and Microsoft’s Kinect booth.

And, since this is a big celebration, everything has been enhanced. Capture the Flag will host 10 teams in a 32-hour game, HackWEEKDAY will last 36 hours, and the rewards offered by Google for Pwnium 2 total $2 million (1.54 million EUR).

“We’re extremely grateful to all our speakers, sponsors and volunteers who have helped us reach a decade of playing host to the brilliant minds that have shaped the security landscape to where it is today” Dhillon Andrew Kannabhiran, founder and CEO of HITB, explained.

“We can’t think of a better way of celebrating a decade of HITB than with a triple track line up featuring some of the most popular speakers we’ve had the honor of hosting. The team and I are looking forward to what is truly going to be one of our most epic events ever!”
