IFA 2012: HTC One XL Hands-On

Made official back in February at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, HTC One XL has already been launched in the United States.

However, the smartphone is exclusively available in the US via AT&T. Given the fact that the One XL’s main selling point is the LTE technology, HTC is expected to launch it in other regions where carriers offer 4G services.

In this regard, HTC One XL will be released in Australia at Telstra, as well as Vodafone Germany. Although we’re not sure when exactly the smartphone will go on sale in Europe, we do know HTC one XL will be available for around 700 EUR.

Obviously, customers who don’t mind committing to a long term contract will be able to purchase it much cheaper through Vodafone Germany or any other carrier that will add the HTC One XL to their portfolios.

For example, the smartphone is available for as low as 50 EUR with one of Vodafone’s most expensive contract.

Specs-wise, the European variant of HTC One XL comes with the same features as the AT&T model, so expect the same high level of performance.

The handset comes with a powerful dual core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, which is complemented by an Adreno 225 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

In addition, the smartphone boasts an impressive 4.7-inch Super IPS LCD2 capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720 x 1280 pixels), and features Corning Gorilla Glass coating for extra protection.

The European HTC One XL lacks a microSD card slot for memory expansion, though it offers 32GB of internal memory, along with 50GB of free cloud storage via Dropbox.

There’s also an enhanced 8-megapixel camera on the back, which features autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.

It also packs Beats Audio technology and a high-capacity 1800 mAh Li-Polymer battery, which is rated by the manufacturer for up to 300 hours of standby time or up to 8 hours of talk time.

The smartphone will be shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform onboard, though HTC confirmed it will deliver a Jelly Bean update by the end of the year.
