The announcement of the new Mass Effect Trilogy release has caused disappointment among those players who prefer the female Shepard model to the male one after publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed that it will not offer an alternate version of the cover.
But fans might have something else to celebrate when the Mass Effect trilogy is launched, according to the development team working on the new package.
The official Twitter account for the Mass Effect franchise then stated via Twitter that, “Well, we’ve got a little something special planned for FemShep coming, so keep that chin up.”
It added, “Not with the cover art. We’re doing something separate.”
Since the Mass Effect series was launched, a significant minority of players has decided that the female version of Commander Shepard, who is voiced by Jennifer Hale, better fits the themes of the series.
The players have been very vocal about getting female Shepard as much screen time as possible in order to get more gamers interested in the series to experience her version of the game.
The Mass Effect Trilogy bundles all the games in the action role-playing game series into one retail package, complete with all the downloadable content that was launched for them.
The trilogy will be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 and the PC in the first week of November.
It is not clear why Electronic Arts is not also launching the Trilogy package on the new Wii U from Nintendo, on which no previous game in the series has been offered.
This is the first time that PS3 gamers will be able to play through the first game in the franchise.
