High-Quality Blu-ray Audio Format Incoming

Japanese companies Memory-Tech, Krypton, Q-tec and Camerata Tokyo are apparently working together to introduce a new "format" for high-quality audio stored on Blu-ray discs.

The new format is supposed to be called “High Resolution Audio” and the companies behind it are reunited in the for of “Promotion Group of Blu-ray Disc for High Resolution Audio.”

The oversampled, high bit-rate audio will be stored on Blu-ray discs and the group will make sure that a complete set of tools and the proper environment for the implementation of the new technology will be available to record companies in Japan.

The adoption rate is unknown at this time and the group shied away from issuing any predictions, but the cost of such discs is reportedly not going to be higher than the average Super Audio CD of our days.

The first three albums using the new technology should be available in November of this year.
