Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 Brings an Improved Unity

Canonical announced today, September 27th, that the second and last Beta version of the upcoming Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) operating system is now available for download.

As usual, we've grabbed a copy of it in order to keep you up-to-date with the latest changes in the Ubuntu 12.10 development.

What's new in Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2? Well, the second Beta release of Ubuntu 12.10 is now powered by the Linux kernel 3.5.0-15.23 packages, based on the stable Linux 3.5.4 kernel upstream release, and the GNOME 3.6 desktop environment, which brings many nice features.

"With Ubuntu 12.10, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu and Ubuntu Studio also reached Beta 2 status today. These images will continue to have daily updates for the remainder of the release." said Kate Stewart in the official announcement.

Moreover, the Unity interface of Ubuntu 12.10 saw a lot of nice improvements and additions during the last two weeks, among which we can mention the controversial Unity Shopping Lens, support for WebApps, support for Amazon videos in the Video Lens, preview support for the Gwibber Lens, ability to move all launcher icons except for the Trash and Dash ones, and much more.
