Following the release of Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 (Quantal Quetzal), we are proud to announce the immediate availability for download of Kubuntu 12.10 Beta 2.
Kubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 (Quantal Quetzal) is an operating system based on several different technologies, such as KDE Software, Plasma, Linux kernel, Debian, and Ubuntu.
In light of the current problems Ubuntu 12.10 is facing, regarding the online Dash searches that have proven to raise serious security concerns, a lot of users have expressed the wish to move from the Ubuntu operating system to Kubuntu.
Kubuntu is based on KDE SC, so it has nothing to do with the Unity desktop environment used in the regular version of Ubuntu. Therefore, no online searches are being made, either to Canonical services or Amazon.
• Kubuntu operating system is now shipped in the form of 1GB images that can be used on an USB stick or a DVD;
• Encrypted and LVM partitioning options have been added in the distribution. The developers are no longer including alternate text installer images;
• New applications have been added, including Skanlite for scanning, Kamoso for webcam images, tablet config, GTK config and Print Manager;
• Digikam has been updated to version 2.8;
• Rekonq 1.0 is the default web browser;
• Facebook resources have been added to Kontact, which means that users can receive calendar and contact information from their Facebook accounts;
• Google resources have been added to Kontact and users can now get information from their Google Accounts;
• OwnCloud 4 has been added, providing a lot of web applications.
