Little Big Planet Karting Mixes Traditional Racing and Creation

Karting and content creation seem to sit at opposing ends of the video game spectrum, but the development team at United Front Games plans to merge the two ideas in the upcoming Little Big Planet Karting.

Jen Timms, a producer working on the game, tells VG247 that, “we have our whole story mode with seven different planets – some of them will be familiar to you from prior games, and others are actually brand new.”

“But everything we’ve created to make the story mode, we’ve used the same creation tools we give you in the editor, just like in Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet games. So you can create your own levels entirely, he then goes on to add.”

The developer says that, during the beta stage for the game, the team has already seen some very interesting levels being created by the community, including arcade-style experiences and mini-games that have little to do with the core karting mechanic.

Timms added, “you can make a first-person shooter, your own custom objects – in this case it could be a hand with a gun – and then you have the ability to control the handling and physics of that. You also have the ability to re-map buttons, or change your abilities, and then you can combine that with the Weaponator gadget that lets you make custom weapons.”

The game creator also commented on the performance of Sleeping Dogs, the game that the company created for Square Enix after Activision canceled it, saying that the team was pleased with its performance and with the feedback coming from players.

Little Big Planet Karting will be offered exclusively on the PlayStation 3 on November 6 in North America and three days later in Europe.

Media Molecule, the creator of the series, has announced that it will create no more Little Big Planet titles and that it is already working on a new franchise.
