Halifax Bank Phishing Scam: Upward Review of Credit Limit

Emails entitled “Urgent Notification (Protect Your online Banking),” apparently coming from Halifax Bank, urge recipients to click on a link and update their online accounts.

The emails (via millersmiles.co.uk) look like this:

DEAR CUSTOMER

During our regular update and verification of the Halifax Bank Service, we found out your account is due for an upward review of credit limit. This might be due to one of the following reasons:

1. Accessing of your account from a different device
2. Making unverified transactions from an unknown ip address
3. A recent change in your personal information. (eg: billing address, phone)

After users click on the link contained in the email, they’re taken to a page that replicates the genuine Halifax website. Here, they’re asked to provide sensitive information that can later be utilized by the cybercrooks to commit identity fraud and other crimes.

If you come across this email, be sure to delete it immediately.
