Assassins Creed 3 Leaves Room for Sequel, Ubisoft Says

Ubisoft is getting ready to debut Assassin’s Creed 3 next month and, while the game is set to end the storyline focused on Desmond, its Lead Writer, Corey May, is confident that it leaves plenty of room for sequels, if the publisher decides to continue the series.

Assassin’s Creed titles have delivered some impressive experiences over the years, focusing both on actual heroes, like Altair or Ezio Auditore, but also on their current-day ancestor, Desmond Miles.

In the newest title, Assassin’s Creed 3, Desmond now experiences the life of Connor, a young assassin that must fight against the Templars during the American Revolution.

While his story is quite important, the game does leave the door open for sequels, according to Corey May, who talked with Shacknews about the story in Assassin’s Creed 3.

"Should they decide in the future to do other stuff, there's plenty of room to explore, plenty of seeds that have been planted that won't conflict," May said.

This shouldn’t worry fans that want some closure with the upcoming game, as May emphasizes that a distinct ending sequence has been forged to please fans who played the previous games.

"It was my intent to provide pay-off and to answer questions for those who are invested in them. It should provide a fairly lengthy ending that will also give room for answers and pay-off," he added.

"The ending should not come out of nowhere. You will not wake up and find that you were in an Animus reliving the life of someone who was in an Animus. We are not doing that. It was not all just a dream. I think people that have invested in the Desmond storyline will understand where the end of the game comes from. We're tying up loose ends and providing answers and resolution to things. You're not going to get another tremendous insane-o cliffhanger."

Considering the array of sci-fi and religious elements baked into the Assassin’s Creed franchise, it’s going to be interesting to see how the team has managed to deliver a conclusion to the player.
