Katie Couric Admits to Struggle with Bulimia in Her Twenties

The next episode of “Katie,” Katie Couric’s new show, tackles eating disorders. Former Disney star and newest X Factor judge Demi Lovato is the celebrity guest but, according to a new report, Katie too will be making one startling revelation.

In her twenties, Couric too struggled with bulimia, she admits on the show, as PageSix reports.

This is the first time that the talk show host opens up on the topic of eating disorders and it’s all in the name of helping other women who might be struggling with the same problem.

“I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that,” Couric says on the show, adding that she suffered from the eating disorder between 18 and 24.

“And I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that’s wrong, you’re full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself, whether it’s one cookie or a stick of gum that isn’t sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that,” Katie goes on to explain.

When she realized she had a problem, she also realized that the solution for it was inside herself, in the way she defined her relationship with food and, just as importantly, with her own body.

“How do you have a healthy relationship with food, and say, ‘You know what, I can have one cookie and it’s OK?’ That is such a huge thing for people who wrestle with this,” she says.

She’s been healthy and taking proper care of herself ever since. Katie maintains her weight with a healthy diet and plenty of exercise, being a fan of the spin studio Flywheel.

Below is the latest promo for the eating disorders episode. Check it out, but note that it says nothing of Couric’s own admission, focusing instead on Demi and other women who have struggled with eating disorders.
