Number of USB 3.0 Products More Than Doubled in Just a Year

As a testament to just how popular the universal serial bus (USB) interface is, there are now 590 certified SuperSpeed USB products on the market.

That means that there are, at this point, 590 devices that can communicate over USB 3.0. Few, if any, leverage the full theoretical performance of the connection (5 Gbps), but there is no question as to whether or not data moves faster than on USB 2.0 (480 Mbps).

That the latest USB 3.0 specification includes 100W Power Delivery is just a nice bonus, all things considered.

We are certain that, soon enough, there won't be any more product launches where an external storage drive, enclosure, or flash drive has only USB 2.0 support. The time when motherboards have only USB 3.0 connectors, rather than both 3.0 and 2.0, is near as well.
