Kinde Fire HD Ships with No Charger and Amazon Overcharges Europeans 252% For It

Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD tablet has made waves today in the media and we reported here on the company’s claims about performance superiority over Nvidia’s Tegra 3 and here is Nvidia’s response, but the most spicy bit of information is in the shipping details.

The unpleasantly surprising fact unveiled about the new Kindle tablets is that they are reportedly shipping with no charger.

Sure, they ship with a plain USB cable that will actually do the trick, but that starts on the presupposition that the buyer has a computer available to load its tablet.

One of the most annoying facts about this situation is that USB charging will last up to 14 hours.

That’s quite a lot as, while on a trip, if in the morning you find out that you have no battery on your device, you’ll have to wait until the next day for it to be fully charged.

Even if you carefully plan your trip schedule and connect the tablet for charging each night, you’ll have to do this earlier than 8 PM if you want to have it fully charged at 10 in the morning.

And if this is not enough, European buyers will likely be disturbed to find out that the company is happily charging them 252% the money a customer on the New Continent will have to shell out for a PowerFast charger.

In America, a Kindle Fire charger costs $10 (€7.9), but in Europe Amazon charges you €20 and that’s more than $25.

The situation is most disturbing and we hope Amazon will change its mind about this policy.

An 8-hour USB charge time would have been acceptable, but a 14-hour charge time is too much for the average user and the EU overpricing policy is simply rude, greedy and unacceptable.
