Google Snags Prometheus, Family Guy, 600 Other Fox Titles for Play and YouTube

Google is playing catch up in the media entertainment field to Amazon and Apple, but it's striking more and more deals to expand its content coverage.

It's especially hard for Google since a lot of the negotiations are focused on "piracy" issues by content owners rather than the matter at hand.

Still, it's making some progress. Google has just announced that it's getting some 600 titles from Fox (News Corp.), both movies and TV shows, to add to its rental and download offerings on YouTube and Google Play.

As a bonus, it's already making Prometheus available, three weeks ahead of the wider DVD, Blu-ray and video on demand release.

That said, it's going to be $15, EUR11.4 for the HD downloadable version, which is actually a cut back from the regular $20, EUR15.2 price.

"We’re happy to share that Stewie, 'Family Guy,' and more than 600 other titles from Twentieth Century Fox will soon be joining the catalog for you to rent or buy on Google Play and YouTube," Google wrote.

"You’ll be able to rent or buy your favorite Fox movies like X-Men, Ice Age and Black Swan, and TV shows like 'Glee,' 'Modern Family,' 'New Girl' and many more," it said.
