Fortnite Is Getting a Beta in Early 2013

Epic Games has revealed that Fortnite, its first game powered by the new Unreal Engine 4 technology, will have at least a closed beta stage in early 2013, although things haven’t been set in stone just yet.

Fortnite was revealed to the world at the end of last year, but only this summer did fans learn that the game is powered by Epic’s upcoming Unreal Engine 4, which has been designed with next-generation consoles in mind.

We have already learned a few new details about the experience, which blends regular combat with scavenging and crafting, and now Epic has confirmed that a beta stage will be held sometime next year.

According to Joystiq, the game’s Producer, Tanya Jessen, confirmed at last weekend’s PAX expo that “there will definitely be a closed beta.”

Sadly, while Jessen said that the test stage would be held “early next year,” Epic’s Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski, quickly added that an accurate time frame had yet to be determined.
