Email Account Phishing: Your Account Is Open in One Other Location

We have come across an interesting phishing scam that’s designed to trick Internet users into handing over their email addresses and their associated passwords. To ensure that they can harvest as many details as they can, the crooks don’t mention any particular email client.

“Dear Webmail User, We noticed your account is open in one other location with network IP address (200.1.27.75). Click here to logout the account from your mailbox and block the IP, from login in again from the address. Regards, Webmail Support,” reads the shady email.

Once the link is clicked, the user is taken to a website where he/she is asked to provide an email address and its associated password.

The variant we found was entitled “Your account is opened in one other location with network IP 200.1.27.75,” but the folks from millersmiles.co.uk identified a similar notification bearing the subject “Update Your Account To Afford Lockout.”

Steer clear of such emails! If you already fell for it, be sure to change your password.
