Electronic Arts Is Excited About Next-Gen Consoles Connectivity

The ever more connected nature of today’s gaming world means that publishers and developers are moving away from single-player experiences and it seems that the future belongs to next-generation consoles that can bring gamers even closer together.

Frank Gibeau, who is the president of the EA Labels division at Electronic Arts, has told an audience at the Cloud Gaming USA conference that, “We are very proud of the way EA evolved with consumers. I have not green lit one game to be developed as a single player experience. Today, all of our games include online applications and digital services that make them live 24/7/365.”

He added, “For all the investments we’ve made in mobile and social, we never abandoned consoles. We are working closely with the console manufacturers and we are very excited about the Gen4 consoles that will be launched in the months and years ahead.”

Electronic Arts has reported significant increases in the revenue that it is deriving from digitally distributed titles during the last few quarters and the company believes that the segment will become even more important in the coming years.

The shift towards connected experiences can even be seen in core franchises like FIFA or Medal of Honor, which have traditionally relied on the single- player elements to attract gamers.

For the sports-based franchises, the big hit was Ultimate Team, the mode that allows players to create their own customized teams and then play against their friends.

In the shooter space, Electronic Arts has aimed to replicate the success of Call of Duty, the rival first- person shooter series from Activision, with both Medal of Honor and Battlefield.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be launched during the fall of this year and has a set of multiplayer modes that focus on the Special Forces of a number of real-world countries.
