BioWare Details Crowd Control for 1.4 Star Wars: The Old Republic Update

Developer BioWare is ready to offer more information on the upcoming 1.4 update for Star Wars: The Old Republic and the team has revealed that a number of balances linked to crowd control will be implemented in order to make it easier to predict how the various powers can be used in real game situations.

The various crowd control powers for the classes are being changed when it comes to range, cooldown and effects in order to make sure that all of them are able to deal with enemy crowds and can also be effective in Player versus Player situations.

The developers have detailed changes for classes like the Scoundrels, Operatives, Mercenaries, Commandos, Sorcerers and Sages.

A full list of the tweaks can be found on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic site.

Austin Peckenpaugh, who is a senior designer working on the MMO, has stated, “Prior to Game Update 1.4, it was simple to control a target from a great distance and do so instantly, often as a surprise opener or from an unseen location off-screen. The way control abilities were designed encouraged this behavior, and the resulting gameplay could be frustrating.”

He added, “In Game Update 1.4, we’ve made adjustments to the range of control abilities under a new philosophy. We want control to be something more readable, more predictable, and less chaotic in effect.”

The developer has also promised that the new MMO will get more updates in the near future, all of them similar in scope to 1.4, in order to further improve the experience of the player and correct any problems with balance.

The 1.4 update for Star Wars: The Old Republic will also introduce the Terror from Beyond operation, which gives players five huge bosses to battle on a new planet.

This fall the BioWare-made MMO is set to go free-to-play.
