Apples New Executives Get 75,000 Shares Bonus

A recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reveals that two of Apple’s newly-appointed senior vice presidents have been awarded 75,000 shares of AAPL stock each.

On August 27, 2012, Apple appointed Craig Federighi as the company’s vice president of Mac Software Engineering. Dan Riccio is now Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering, replacing Bob Mansfield, who is sticking around simply as SVP.

Mansfield had previously scheduled his retirement, but something made him change his mind. He will remain at Apple, and “will work on future products, reporting to Tim Cook,” according to a press release from the Mac maker.

Softpedia speculated in a Personal Thoughts entry that Mansfield was still likely to retire soon, nonetheless.

Federighi and Riccio have joined Apple’s executive team as senior vice presidents, which means they’re in line to get some hefty bonuses, as is tradition at 1 Infinite Loop, Cupertino, California.

An SEC filing unearthed by 9to5mac reveals that Craig Federighi and Dan Riccio were each awarded 75,000 shares worth $50 million (€39 million) today.

25,000 of the shares can be vested Dec. 23, 2013, another 25,000 on April 23, 2015. The remainder will vest on Aug.23, 2016, pending the two executives’ commitment to stick with the Cupertino, California company until then.

Craig Federighi is now “responsible for the development of Mac OS X and Apple's common operating system engineering teams,” according to his profile on Apple’s bios page.

Federighi can be regarded as part of the Steve Jobs legacy, having worked at NeXT, a company founded by the visionary genius himself before his triumphant return at Apple in 1997.

It wasn’t until 2009 that Federighi came back “to lead Mac OS X engineering, working on a number of major software releases including Mountain Lion, the most successful OS X release in Apple’s history.”

Dan Riccio will be in charge of the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod engineering teams.

“Dan has been a key contributor to most of the company's hardware over his career and was instrumental in all of Apple's iPad products since the first generation iPad was introduced,” according to Apple.
