TERA Servers Will Be Merged on September 18

Developer Bluehole and publisher En Masse Entertainment have announced that they are planning to merge the servers of their MMO TERA after just over four months on the market, creating just three servers to sustain the entire population on September 18.

The original figure stood at 11 and now TERA will have one server dedicated to the Player versus Environment gameplay, one will be focused on Player versus Player and another which encourages deep role-playing.

Chris Hager, who is a producer working on TERA, has stated, “We’ve got several metrics to measure server activity—and many of ours are below the mark. We’ve also been listening to the issues our players have been having in the game: lack of resources, lack of groups, extended wait times for dungeons, and so on.”

The developer says, “We feel that the best way to address these problems is to increase the number of simultaneous players on our servers.”

He added, “Where some might look on this as a negative, I feel differently. By combining our servers, we facilitate a more unified community and give players a more full, alive world where finding groups, locating rare items (for lower prices), and getting into dungeons quickly are the norm.”

The fact that the entire population of TERA is now focused on just three servers will mean that the development team will be able to run a number of events that allows them to interact with the player base by the end of September.

During October Bluehole plans to also launch a number of Halloween events and one month later the game will get a battlegrounds tournament.

The winter months will also bring a number of MMO-related holiday celebrations.

TERA is one of the MMOs that has chosen to include an action-driven battle system, which means that player skill is central to success.
