Acer CloudMobile Skips Europe, Goes on Sale in China

Although Acer CloudMobile has been officially announced earlier in February at the Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, the smartphone received an iF Design award last year.

All in all, the company promised the smartphone would be launched in the UK in early September. In fact, Acer CloudMobile is already available for pre-order at major retailers across the country for around 290 GBP (465 USD or 360 EUR) off-contract.

However, it appears that Acer has other plans for the CloudMobile as the handset maker has just launched the smartphone in China.

Customers in China can purchase the Acer CloudMobile for 3,000 yuan (475 USD or 365 EUR) outright, though the device comes with a slight change when it comes to software configuration.

Instead of running Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, Acer decided to ship the CloudMobile with Alibaba’s Aliyun platform onboard.

Word is that Acer decided to go for the Chinese cloud-based operating system due to ease of use and smoother user experience.

Apparently, Chinese customers looking to purchase their first smartphone would have a much easier time with Alibaba’s Aliyun OS than Ice Cream Sandwich.

Anyway, the rest of the phone’s specs sheet seems similar with the European version, so expect this one to be available in China with a more than decent 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 800 x 1280 pixels resolution and 16 million colors.

In addition, the device is equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM. Acer CloudMobile packs 16GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

On the back of the phone, Acer included an 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus and LED flash, while in the front there’s a secondary VGA camera for video calls.
