LG Readying Optimus G Superphone with Quad-Core CPU, LTE and HD Display

South Korean handset manufacturer LG already confirmed plans to expand its LTE smartphone portfolio to 10 additional countries. That will bump the number of LTE-enabled smartphone markets to 20, thus boosting the LG’s profits.

Furthermore, LG is also planning to take on the competition on the high-end segment, which is why the company is determined to launch new smartphones in the following months that will rival popular smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy S III, Sony Xperia S or Motorola RAZR.

One such device could be equipped with a quad-core processor and a stunning 4.7-inch True HD capacitive touchscreen display.

According to Asia Today, LG is about to announce a new Android flagship smartphone in late August. Dubbed LG Optimus G, the device is expected to be showcased for the first time at IFA 2012 trade fair, which is set to kick off on August 31.

The cited report claims the Optimus G will boast an impressive 13-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.

In addition, the smartphone is said to be packed with VoLTE (Voice over LTE) capabilities, LTE support and 2GB of RAM. There’s no word on the amount of storage, but Optimus G will feature microSD card slot for memory expansion.

Rumor has it that the Optimus G will be shipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, accompanied by LG’s Optimus 3.0 UI.

At first glance, this Optimus G seems to be the same device rumored several months ago as LG Eclipse 4G, though we have yet to confirm this.

If the information proves accurate, then we might see the LG Optimus G going on sale in the United States via Sprint. Word is that the smartphone won’t hit shelves earlier than Q4 2012. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
