Dishonored Lacks Skyrim Scope, Offers an Innovative Experience

The upcoming Dishonored action and stealth game from Arkane Studio gives players so many options that even the development team was at times unable to determine whether bug reports were linked to genuine issues with the game or were simply novel ways of approaching a certain situation.

Pete Hines, the vice president in charge of public relations and marketing at Bethesda, told VG247 that, “With Dishonored, it’s not trying to be the scope of Skyrim and is more of a hub and spoke set-up, but within that mission there are lots of different ways that you can go through.”

“The funny thing on Dishonored is that we have been looking at bug reports with a view of, ‘Well, is that really a bug or is that just an unintended consequence that we didn’t plan for?’” he confessed.

The executive also believes that much of Dishonored’s attraction is linked to the fact that it offers a new universe and a new franchise during a launch season when most companies are focusing on a number of well-known properties.

Hines added, “That’s not to say that games that are part of a franchise are doing nothing to innovate, but obviously when you’re doing new IP you’re starting from scratch and so it’s an additional benefit to Dishonored to be doing something different; to be a breath of fresh air.”

Dishonored is designed to give players a lot of tools, ranging from supernatural powers to items and weapons, which can be used in order to approach a number of situations in many different ways, ranging from complete stealth to an all-out gunfight.

The star of the game is Corvo, a former bodyguard that was framed for murder and is now looking for truth in the city of Dunwall.

Dishonored will be launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and will be out on October 9 in North America and three days later in Europe.
