HBO Go to Be Available Without a Cable Subscription in Northern Europe

Piracy is an availability issue, or at least, availability plays a large role. After a decade of saying otherwise, it's hard for media companies to admit to their mistake.

But that doesn't mean they're not realizing it was a mistake and, slowly, starting to do something about it.

Yes, this is about Game of Thrones again. And no, it's not coming online in the US anytime soon without an HBO cable subscription, but that is becoming possible in Europe, at least in several Nordic countries.

There are plans to offer the HBO Go service in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark to anyone willing to pony up whatever HBO ends up asking for it, regardless of whether they have a cable subscription or not.

It's a first step, but it's an important one. If the move is a success, expect HBO to do the same in markets where it doesn't already have a large TV subscription market share, i.e. not the US.
