The Story Behind the HTML5 Remakes of Atari's Classic Pong, Missile Command

To showcase just how HTML5 "capable" IE10 is, Microsoft worked together with Atari to bring back some of the most famous classic games and give them a new spin on the web. Atari rebuilt eight of the most popular games of the past century with standard web tools, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.

HTML5 and the associated technologies are quite advanced at this point, but they're still not proven when it comes to games. Or rather, not yet proven, Atari's new games should make it clear that HTML5 gaming is not only possible, it's the way to go.

The games run great in IE10, Chrome and most other modern browsers, they make use of hardware acceleration and, the best part, they work with multi-touch input.

The games were put together by GSkinner.com and the team even open-sourced the JavaScript framework they developed for them. The video showcases the story behind the project.
