Canonical Promotes ARM Servers Powered By Ubuntu

Canonical thinks that the ARM servers is the way of the future, and they are doing everything in their power to assure themselves that they're ready for the massive adoption of low-powered servers.

Victor Palau, Commercial Engineering Director at Canonical, has gone to some length trying to explain why ARM is probably the best solution for servers.

The Canonical director has explained that Dell and HP already jumped on board the ARM wagon and that they are going to have solutions that involve the Ubuntu operating system

Canonical is hard at work developing an operating system compatible with the ARM architecture. Ubuntu 11.10 provided a non-server SoC Technical Preview a while back, but with the release of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the commitment was made for five years of support (2 server SoCs).

According to Victor Palau, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will provide full five years support, with many A15 and ARM v8 SoCs Cloud ready.

A comprehensive and complete guide that underline the expected adoption of ARM servers has been compiled by Victor Palau and can be viewed here.
