VMware has announced VMware Fusion 5, a new version of the company’s popular virtualization software that has been optimized for the latest technologies in OS X Mountain Lion, Windows 8 and the latest Macs from Apple.
VMware Fusion 5 brings more than 70 new features “for a Windows on Mac experience never seen before,” says the company.
The software has been downright “designed for Mountain Lion” according to the software company, making Windows apps appear in the OS X Launchpad, enabling “AirPlay Mirroring” to stream Mac and Windows applications on an HDTV, and even integrating Mountain Lion’s Notification Center with Windows.
Back to OS X, VMware Fusion 5 features support for the latest technologies in Mountain Lion, as well as Retina display optimization, USB 3 connectivity, and improved support for Macs that are teeming with memory.
Fusion itself has gotten some performance enhancements to become up to 40% faster with improved power management for longer battery life and faster 3D graphics.
There’s an updated virtual machine library that enables seamless transitions between multiple OSes, and snapshots have been improved from a graphical standpoint.

VMware Fusion 5 and VMware Fusion 5 Professional are now available for $49.99 / €39.99 and $99.99 / €79.99, respectively. VMware Fusion 4 license holders are eligible for a free upgrade.
