As if iPhone users needed more web browsers to choose from, Maxthon has jumped into the race to become the solution of choice for millions of customers worldwide. Mozilla, what's taking so long?
Google and Opera are already battling it out, and there are countless other companies out there selling web browsing solutions for iOS (such as the popular Dolphin Web browser).
Maxthon doesn’t aim to be just another one of those solutions. According to its makers, this new version extends the features and cloud-based services used by desktop users around the world.
Commenting on their new release, Jeff Chen, CEO of Maxthon, said "Maxthon for iPhone is part of our sustained product rollout for Apple and follows our release for iPad and our most recent release of Maxthon for Mac.”
“This new addition to the Maxthon suite of browsers further strengthens our position as a leading cross-platform browser provider. With a number of features exclusive to Maxthon for iPhone, users now can enjoy a better browsing experience with iOS. We plan to expand these offerings with future updates for all of Apple's products," added Chen.
Probably Maxthon’s winning feature is Cloud Services, which allows you to syncs bookmarks/favorites to the cloud for convenient access on iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC, Kindle Fire and Android gizmos.
Google Chrome has it too, and Opera Mini boasts Opera Link, but that’s about it on the iOS. If you don’t like either one of those, perhaps Maxthon is worth a shot.
A Reader Mode removes all ads and creates neatness for reading articles and news stories without distractions, and a Quick Links Center will hold over 60 of the most popular websites and applications, including news, technology, business, social media, videos, shopping, sports and more.
Other (obvious) features include tabbed browsing, a smart address bar, speed dial, and even a downloads manager.
"Maxthon for iPhone is a better alternative to the preloaded browsers, which can sometimes be less than user-friendly or lack some of the popular features available on other devices," said Karl Mattson, GM of Maxthon North America.
"Most importantly, Maxthon mobile users have the ability to sync their webpage favorites/bookmarks across multiple platforms and devices."
However, you still won’t be able to set it as the default browser on your iPhone, which is a bummer, considering how many links users generally open from external apps.
