Darksiders 2 Gets New Details About Its Characters, Fresh Screenshots

Vigil Games has just posted quite a few new details on its upcoming Darksiders 2 hack and slash game, this time presenting new information about Death and his fellow Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as well as some of the beings that will help him in the new game.

Darksiders II is out later this month and stars Death, the brother of Darksiders I protagonist, War. He’s set to go on a quest to clear the name of his brother and will explore all sorts of fantasy worlds, while battling against different types of enemies.

In order to bring fans of the series up to date with the Darksiders lore, Vigil Games has now posted quite a few interesting details on the European PS Blog. The studio presents fresh information about Death, his trusty steed, Despair, and his bird sidekick, Dust, not to mention some of the characters he’ll meet along his journey, like the Crowfather or the Maker Elder.

Check out all of the details below.

Death
Like his fellow Horsemen, Death is of a race known as Nephilim – among the most powerful beings in the universe. When mankind was given the prize of Eden, Absalom – leader of the Nephilim – led his armies against Heaven and Hell in an attempt to steal it back. For this crime, the Charred Council condemned the Nephilim to destruction. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse were granted a reprieve from this fate on the condition they aid the Council’s victory over their kin. The Horsemen accepted, but it was Death who bore the greatest burden of guilt for the near extinction of his race. Donning his iconic mask to represent his role as executioner on the day he slaughtered his brethren, he has not removed it since.

Dust
A bird of unknown origins, neither living nor dead, Dust is Death’s trusty sidekick. Dust will aid Death as he navigates the treacherous dungeons and explores the expansive overworld of Darksiders II.

Despair
Despair is Death’s loyal steed. Unlike Ruin in the original Darksiders, players will have access to their mount near the game’s beginning. This allows them to use Despair’s combat abilities in any open spaces, and to travel faster between points in the overworld areas.

Crowfather
Dark and mysterious, the Crowfather is a Keeper of secrets. Like all things pertaining to the Crowfather, his race and origin are a mystery—though some believe him to be Nephilim as the Horsemen are. The Crowfather is sagely, lacking in patience and humour, but possessed of an ancient wisdom and knowledge of things forgotten, or best forgotten. Though he resembles an old weathered crone, the Crowfather’s mastery of arcane arts makes him a force to be reckoned with. His crow minions are fiercely protective, giving their very lives to strengthen his magic, or to murder any threat against him.

Maker Elder
The oldest of the Old Ones, the Elder is withdrawn and contemplative. He moves and speaks slowly, with a great wisdom and sense of inner peace. There is, more and more in his tone, a great sorrow. He has seen the end of all things, and knows that the march toward this inescapable fate has already begun. Death’s appearance in their world is unexpected however, and the Elder sees it as an omen, or at the very least, an unexpected wrinkle which may change the course of fate.

Besides the new details, quite a few screenshots have also appeared, depicting Death, Dust, Despair, as well as the Crowfather or the Maker Elder.

Enjoy the images below and get ready for the launch of Darksiders II on August 14, in North America, and August 21, in Europe and the rest of the world, for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
