Worlds Oldest Gymnast Is Johanna Quaas, 86 Video

The latest edition of Guinness Book of World Records celebrates some of the most amazing and extraordinary talents and people, as ever. Among them is also Johanna Quaas from Leipzig, Germany, who, at 86, is the world’s oldest gymnast.

Below are two videos of Johanna showing off those incredible skills that have earned her the title and, trust us, we’re not exaggerating, incredible they are.

The first video is part of a collage presenting the latest inductees to the Guinness Book, Johanna among them.

She also showcases her skills on the parallels, delivering an almost perfect routine with such ease, grace and degree of accuracy that would many of us would probably never even dream of being able to accomplish.

To cap it all off, Johanna is also very modest.

“It is great feeling to be included and I hope the record inspires others to realize it's never too late,” she says.

She knows what she’s talking about: once an avid gymnast raised in a family of gymnasts, she gave it up to have babies and start a family. Later in life, she realized what was missing from it and started working out again.

She was in her fifties by then, entering her first completion at the age of 56.

Johanna even had a job as a PE teacher but she’s definitely inspiring more people now that she’s retired. Considering she’s 86 years old and doing this kind of things, it’s really no wonder why that happens.

Mrs. Quaas describes herself as “an early bird,” whose only morning routine is “running up and down the stairs.” She runs outdoors as well, while making sure she stays flexible with yoga.

The second video embedded at the end of this article is another demonstration from Johanna, this time at the pre-Olympics German gymnastics event, Cottbus 2012.

There’s a lesson in this for all of us.
