Worlds Most Expensive Dress Costs 3.5 Million ($5.6 / 4.3 Million)

If you thought Kelly Osbourne’s black diamond manicure at the Emmy Awards 2012 was over the top, know that it was nothing compared to the world’s most expensive dress, which costs a staggering £3.5 million ($5.6 / €4.3 million).

Never has the saying “diamonds are a girl’s best friend” been more true: designer Debbie Wingham has created a dress made with black diamonds, which costs more than most of us even dare dream of.

The precious design took months to make because all the gems are sewn into it by hand. It’s also pretty heavy, so we imagine going dancing in it is out of the question.

Wingham showed off her bold creation at this year’s Ukraine Fashion Week, the Daily Mail informs.

“The dazzling dress, which received mixed reviews from onlookers at Ukraine Fashion Show, is encrusted with 50 two carat black diamonds and weighs a staggering 29lbs (13kg),” the tab writes.

“The dress boasts 25 two carat black diamonds adorning the peplum and a further 25 two carat black diamonds on the shoulder shrug, while more diamonds frame the detachable shoulder line,” the Mail goes on to say.

This particular, insanely expensive design is one of the seven Wingham has created for the fashion show, which is good news, if you will: if you like it that much, you can probably get a cheaper version (which, we assume, is still insanely expensive).

“On the bustier part of the handmade dress – which is the result of six months' work – is a centerpiece of five carats of black diamonds,” the Mail goes on to say.

White diamonds are also sewn in, in white gold settings that are bound to make the dress stand out even more.

In fact, Wingham says, this is what sets her creation apart from “any other world’s most expensive gowns.”

This is not Wingham’s first brush with diamonds and couture: in the past, she’s also designed diamond jeans.
