Worlds Lightest 7 Tablet Announced by NEC

Well-known electronics giant, Japanese company NEC has developed a new tablet for NTT DoCoMo mobile operator. The new device has a 7” display and it is the lightest 7” tablet in the world.

The official denomination of the new tablet is Medias Tab UL N08-D and the SoC powering it is Qualcomm’s famous SnapDragon S4 Plus Krait mobile processor.

Compared with Google’s Nexus 7 at 340 grams (0.74 pounds), Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 at 345 g (0.76 pounds) and Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD at 395 grams (0.87), the new Medias Tab UL N08-D from NEC is in the feather-weight category with only 249 grams (0.54 pounds).

The battery is just 3100 mAh, but the tablet comes with the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and the powerful MSM8960 SoC runs at a high 1.5 GHz which should make it a very attractive buy.

The SnapDragon S4 Plus SoC from Qualcomm can actually clock up to 1.7 GHz while keeping the power consumption in check. The fact that NEC decided that a 1.5 GHz frequency is enough, will only prolong the battery life of the Medias Tab UL N08-D 7” tablet.

The integrated GPU is a rather powerful Adreno 305 that has support for FullHD video.

WirelessN support is also present on the light tablet and we’re sure that an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update can’t be too far away.

Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB 2.0 are also functions integrated into the 28nm SoC from Qualcomm and thus, this level of integration along with the advanced manufacturing technology, should also offer a better battery life.
