Woman Poisoning Boyfriend with Eye Drops Explains She Didnt Get Enough Attention

Vickie Jo Mills was charged with assault, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment after repeatedly poisoning her boyfriend with Visine eye drops, the RecordHerald reports.

The 33-year-old from Ayr Township, Pennsylvania could be serving a lifetime sentence after admittedly spiking her boyfriend´s drinks with Visine, for a period of almost 3 years.

Thurman Edgar Nesbitt III, 45, the woman´s boyfriend and the father of her child, only discovered he had been poisoned on July 17, 2012.

He had visited his doctor many times in the past years, until he got suspicious about the cause of his health issues.

The man believed he was suffering from an unknown illness that manifested itself with symptoms like nausea, vomiting, spikes in his blood pressure and shortness of breath.

Dr. Harry Johnston told the police that he suspected his patient was being poisoned. He tested Nesbitt for Tetrahydrozoline, the main ingredient in Visine, and the tests came out positive.

Tetrahydrozoline is a decongestant that has the property of reducing redness of the eyes and, when ingested, can cause the aforementioned symptoms.

The Police questioned Ms. Mills and she confessed to the crime. She says she had only put Visine in her boyfriend´s drinks 10 to 12 times since 2009. The interrogation revealed that the woman was just seeking her boyfriend´s attention, and, in fact, had never meant to kill him.

Mills was taken to Franklin County Jail, and her bail was set to $75,000.

Blood results indicated that the man had “extremely high levels” of Tetrahydrozoline in his system, somewhere around 49 nanograms per milliliter.

If the desperate woman had continued to poison Nesbitt, she would now be charged with murder, as the ingestion of large quantities of Tetrahydrozoline can lead to seizures and respiratory failure.
