Windows Phone 8 to Arrive in China in December

Microsoft hasn’t provided specific info on when Windows Phone 8 would become generally available, but more and more rumors on the matter are making the rounds on the web.

The latest of them suggests that the company’s upcoming mobile platform won’t hit shelves in China before December this year.

According to a recent article on WPDang, Chinese mobile phone users will have the chance to purchase Windows Phone 8 devices starting with the third week of December, and not sooner.

The official announcement regarding the availability of Windows Phone 8 is expected to be made next month, most probably towards its end.

Following that announcement, wireless carriers in China are expected to unveil specific info on the launch of Windows Phone 8 devices on their networks.

China Unicom (WCDMA) and China Telecom (TD-SCDMA) are expected to launch Windows Phone 8 devices on their networks, with the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960) processor inside, as it offers support for their bands.

China Mobile, the largest wireless carrier in the country, and also the largest in the world by number of subscribers, will also launch Windows Phone 8 handsets.

In fact, the carrier has already confirmed the upcoming availability of Nokia’s Lumia 920 smartphone exclusively on its network, but it did not provide specific details on launch date or pricing.

Unfortunately, other operators in China did not offer info on the WP8 smartphones they might carry, though it should not be too long before they unveil all on the matter.

China has become one of the most important smartphone markets lately, and is expected to grow further. Recent reports suggest that the volume of smartphones sold in the country this year should top 160 million units, outpacing the United States.

For Nokia, it represents the largest phone market at the moment, and the availability of new Lumia devices there is expected to help the Finnish handset vendor gain some more of the ground it has lost in the past few years.
