Torchlight 2 Offers Quality Despite Lower Price

The 19.99 dollar or Euro launch price for Torchlight 2, which arrives via digital distribution, is better than the 60 dollars or Euro price point that a publisher would set, according to the leader of the development team working on the game.

Mac Schaefer, who is the chief executive officer at Runic Games, has told IGN that, “Back in the day, when we would sell a $60-dollar box, by the time the money came back to us, it would be maybe $14 dollars a copy.”

He added, “And that’s what we get nowadays on Steam, selling a digital download version for $20. So from our perspective, we’re as viable and as profitable as an independent developer used to be selling $60 boxes.”

Schaefer emphasized that the lower price did not mean that Torchlight 2 was a lesser quality experience and urged players to try it out.

Torchlight 2 will be launched on September 20.
